Shaved space as a stage

Kakigori (shaved ice) has long been a favorite summer treat in Japan. In recent years, high-grade Kakigori with particular attention paid to the ingredients, the place of origin of the ice, and the way it is shaved has been gaining popularity regardless of the season, and this project called for a sophisticated space with a sense of modernity while retaining a Japanese style as a place to serve such premium Kakigori.
The Kakigori craftsmen use special machines to rotate, shave, and shape the square blocks of ice into beautiful Kakigori. A large table was placed in the center of the space as a stage so that customers could watch and enjoy the process from their seats. Multiple circles were drawn on the floor around the axis of rotation of the ice shaving machine, and the ceiling, floor, furniture, lighting, etc. were shaped and arranged using these circles as auxiliary lines. In this way, the various elements rotate around the place where the Kakigori craftsman is shaving ice, creating a situation where the space seems to be shaved radially, creating a centripetal and inclusive space.
