A cavernous space gently connected through an earthen floor

Interior plan for a sushi restaurant located on the first floor of a newly built hotel along a main street in Higashi-Azabu. Within a long, narrow floor with a frontage of approximately 6m and a depth of approximately 18m, the project called for two counter seats (stage) for the sushi restaurant, one large and one small, and a wine bar.
A new facade of painted walls was installed inside the curtain wall at the entrance, and the zoning of the passageways and each area was studied as if a cave was being dug deeper and deeper from the facade. A passageway in the form of an earthen floor runs through the long, narrow floor, and a wine bar, two counter seats (stage), restrooms, and other functions are located in the area enclosed by the floor and the passageway.
The wine bar, with its vaulted ceiling reminiscent of a wine curve, and the two open counter seats (stage), separated by 3-meter-high lattice sliding doors, are connected by a goose-down earthen floor area, thus creating a space where one can feel the presence and liveliness of each place while maintaining their independence.
The counter seating (stage) is contrasted with the earthen floor space by reducing the ceiling height with a lowered ceiling and changing the flooring material, creating a sense of intimacy within the open space.
